कच्चित् बले च कोशे च मित्रेषु च परंतप ।
कुशलम् ते नर व्याघ्र पुत्र पौत्रे तथा अनघ ॥ ॥१-५२-९॥
Kaccit bale ca kośe ca mitreṣu ca paraṃtapa |
Kuśalam te nara vyāghra putra pautre tathā anagha ॥1-52-9॥
Translation
O scorcher of foes! O tiger among men! Is all well with your army, your treasury, and your friends? O sinless one, are your sons and grandsons doing well?

हे परंतप (शत्रुओं को तपाने वाले)! हे नरव्याघ्र! क्या आपके कोष (खजाना), सेना और मित्रों में सब कुशल है? हे निष्पाप! क्या आपके पुत्र और पौत्र कुशल हैं?
English Commentary
This verse addresses the remaining components of the Saptanga Rajya (the Seven Limbs of the State) theory in Indian political science. Vashistha inquires about the Bala (Army/Force), Kosha (Treasury), and Mitra (Allies). The interrogation follows a logical hierarchy: a King needs a treasury to maintain an army, and allies to support foreign policy. The address Anagha (sinless one) is significant; it implies that political power must not corrupt the King's personal morality. Finally, the inquiry into putra pautre (sons and grandsons) is not just familial small talk but a political question regarding the stability of succession. A disputed or weak succession was a major threat to any kingdom. Vashistha covers financial, military, diplomatic, and dynastic health in a single verse.
