इति उक्तः तु तया राम वसिष्ठः सुमहायशाः ।
सृजस्व इति तदा उवाच बलम् पर बल अर्दनम् ॥१-५४-१७॥

sṛjasva iti tadā uvāca balam para bala ardanam ॥1-54-17॥
Translation
O Rama! Being addressed thus by her, the exceedingly illustrious Vashistha then said to her, "Create a force that will destroy the enemy's army."

हे राम! शबला के द्वारा इस प्रकार कहे जाने पर, महायशस्वी वसिष्ठ ने उस समय उससे कहा—"शत्रु की सेना का नाश करने वाली सेना (बल) को उत्पन्न करो।"
English Commentary
Vashistha finally breaks his passive stance. The epithet sumahāyaśāḥ (of great fame) reminds the listener that his reputation is built on righteousness, which he is now about to defend. His command is simple: sṛjasva ("Create"). He authorizes Shabala to generate a counter-force. This distinction is crucial in the context of Dharma; the Sage does not pick up a weapon himself, maintaining his status as a Brahmin, but he utilizes the divine resources at his disposal (the Kamadhenu) to neutralize the aggression. The phrase para bala ardanam (destroyer of enemy forces) clearly defines the objective: this is a defensive measure to neutralize the aggressor's military capacity.

यहाँ वसिष्ठ जी अंततः अपनी मौन साधना से बाहर आते हैं और क्रियाशील होते हैं। 'सुमहायशः' (अत्यंत यशस्वी) विशेषण यह संकेत करता है कि वसिष्ठ का यश केवल तपस्या में ही नहीं, बल्कि अधर्म के दमन में भी है। शबला द्वारा अनुमति मांगे जाने पर, ऋषि उसे 'सृजस्व' (सृजन करो/उत्पन्न करो) का आदेश देते हैं। यह आदेश महत्वपूर्ण है क्योंकि वसिष्ठ स्वयं हिंसा नहीं कर रहे हैं; वे अपनी तपोशक्ति (शबला) को सक्रिय कर रहे हैं ताकि वह आत्मरक्षा कर सके। 'पर बल अर्दनम्' का अर्थ है शत्रु सेना को पीड़ित या नष्ट करने वाला। यह क्षण ऋषि की सहनशीलता की सीमा और धर्म की रक्षा के लिए शक्ति के प्रयोग की आवश्यकता को दर्शाता है।
