भगवन् किम् परित्यक्ता त्वया अहम् ब्रह्मणः सुत ।
यस्मात् राज भटा माम् हि नयन्ते त्वत् सकाशतः ॥१-५४-८॥
bhagavan kim parityaktā tvayā aham brahmaṇaḥ suta |
yasmāt rāja bhaṭā mām hi nayante tvat sakāśataḥ ॥1-54-8॥
Translation
O Revered One! O Son of Brahma! Have I been abandoned by you? For that reason, the King's soldiers are taking me away from your presence.

हे भगवन्! हे ब्रह्मपुत्र! क्या आपने मुझे त्याग दिया है? जिससे कि ये राजसैनिक मुझे आपके पास से दूर ले जा रहे हैं।
English Commentary
Shabala’s address to Vashistha as Brahmanaḥ suta (Son of Brahma) is significant—it acknowledges his supreme lineage and inherent power, implying he is capable of stopping this if he wishes. Her question strikes at the heart of the master-disciple or deity-devotee relationship: "Have you abandoned me?" She operates on the logic that no external force (the King's soldiers) could possibly succeed against her unless her protector had withdrawn his grace. She does not blame the soldiers' strength; she fears the Sage's indifference. This reflects a theological stance where the devotee fears separation from the divine will more than worldly suffering.

शबला का प्रश्न अत्यंत मार्मिक है। वह वसिष्ठ जी को 'ब्रह्मणः सुत' (ब्रह्मा के पुत्र) कहकर संबोधित करती है, जो उनकी शक्ति और कुल की याद दिलाता है। उसका प्रश्न "क्या आपने मुझे त्याग दिया है?" यह दर्शाता है कि वह राजा के बल को अपनी हार का कारण नहीं मानती, बल्कि उसे लगता है कि ऋषि की इच्छा के बिना उसे कोई नहीं ले जा सकता। यदि वह ले जाई जा रही है, तो उसे भय है कि कहीं उसके स्वामी ने ही उसका त्याग तो नहीं कर दिया। यह 'अनन्य भाव' है—जहाँ भक्त मानता है कि उसके जीवन की हर घटना उसके स्वामी की इच्छा से ही हो रही है। वह राजा के सैनिकों को केवल निमित्त मात्र मानती है।
