ततो गत्वा आश्रमपदम् मुमोच अस्त्राणि पार्थिवः ।
यैः तत् तपो वनम् सर्वम् निर्दग्धम् च अस्त्र तेजसा ॥ ॥१-५५-२१॥
Tato gatvā āśramapadam mumoca astrāṇi pārthivaḥ |
Yaiḥ tat tapo vanam sarvam nirdagdham ca astra tejasā ॥1-55-21॥
Translation
Then, having gone to the hermitage, the king unleashed his weapons, by the energy of which that entire penance-grove was scorched.
हिंदी अनुवाद
तदनन्तर, आश्रम में जाकर राजा (विश्वामित्र) ने उन अस्त्रों को छोड़ना शुरू किया, जिनके तेज से वह संपूर्ण तपोवन जलने लगा।
English Commentary
The contrast between the setting and the action is stark. Vishvamitra enters a Tapovana (grove dedicated to penance and peace) and unleashes destructive energy. The word Parthivah (king/ruler of earth) emphasizes his role as a warrior enforcing his will, clashing with the ascetic environment. The scorching of the forest symbolizes the collateral damage caused by uncontrolled anger. It signifies that when power is misused, it destroys the sanctity of nature and peace, foreshadowing the violation of dharma that Vasistha must now counter.

यहाँ विश्वामित्र के लिए 'पार्थिव:' (पृथ्वी का राजा/शासक) शब्द का प्रयोग किया गया है, जो उनके राजसिक स्वभाव को दर्शाता है। उन्होंने एक पवित्र तपोवन पर, जो शांति और अहिंसा का स्थान है, संहारक अस्त्रों का प्रयोग किया। 'निर्दग्धम्' शब्द बताता है कि अस्त्रों का ताप कितना भीषण था कि हरे-भरे वन भी जलने लगे। यह क्रोध का भौतिक रूप है जो न केवल शत्रु को, बल्कि उसके परिवेश और प्रकृति को भी नष्ट करता है। एक ऋषि के आश्रम पर राजा का यह आक्रमण धर्म और मर्यादा के विरुद्ध था।
