दृष्ट्वा निषूदितम् सैन्यम् वसिष्ठेन महात्मना ।
विश्वामित्र सुतानाम् तु शतम् नाना विध आयुधम् ॥१-५५-५॥
dṛṣṭvā niṣūditam sainyam vasiṣṭhena mahātmanā |
viśvāmitra sutānām tu śatam nānā vidha āyudham ॥1-55-5॥
Translation
Seeing the army destroyed by the high-souled Vashistha, the one hundred sons of Vishvamitra, armed with various kinds of weapons, [rushed towards him].
हिंदी अनुवाद
महात्मा वसिष्ठ (की शक्ति) द्वारा अपनी सेना को नष्ट हुआ देखकर, विश्वामित्र के सौ पुत्र, नाना प्रकार के आयुध (हथियार) लेकर (दौड़े)।
English Commentary
With his army gone, Vishvamitra's personal lineage enters the fray. His hundred sons, seeing the devastation caused by Vashistha (vasiṣṭhena niṣūditam), charge in a blind rage. They are heavily armed (nānā vidha āyudham). This marks a critical escalation: the conflict moves from political/military (King vs Sage) to personal/familial. The verse sets up the tragic consequence of the King's obstinacy—by involving his sons in an unjust war against a Brahmarishi, he exposes his entire lineage to destruction. The contrast between the "high-souled" Sage and the aggressive sons is stark.

सेना के विनाश के बाद, अब युद्ध व्यक्तिगत स्तर पर आ गया है। विश्वामित्र के सौ पुत्र क्रोधित होकर वसिष्ठ पर आक्रमण करने के लिए दौड़ पड़ते हैं। यहाँ वसिष्ठ को 'महात्मना' कहा गया है, जिसका अर्थ है कि उन्होंने यह विनाश द्वेषवश नहीं, बल्कि आत्मरक्षा और धर्मरक्षा में किया है। विश्वामित्र के पुत्रों के पास 'नाना विध आयुधम्' (अनेक प्रकार के हथियार) हैं। यह घटनाक्रम अब और अधिक दुखद मोड़ लेने वाला है, क्योंकि राजा का परिवार अब सीधे ऋषि के कोप का भाजन बनेगा। यह श्लोक अगले चरण की भूमिका है जहाँ ऋषि को कठोर दंड देना पड़ेगा।
