ते स अश्व रथ पादाता वसिष्ठेन महात्मना ।
भस्मी कृता मुहूर्तेन विश्वामित्र सुताः तदा ॥१-५५-७॥
te sa aśva ratha pādātā vasiṣṭhena mahātmanā |
bhasmī kṛtā muhūrtena viśvāmitra sutāḥ tadā ॥1-55-7॥
Translation
Then, those sons of Vishvamitra, along with their horses, chariots, and foot soldiers, were turned to ash in a moment by the high-souled Vashistha.

उस समय महात्मा वसिष्ठ ने विश्वामित्र के उन पुत्रों को उनके घोड़ों, रथों और पैदल सैनिकों सहित क्षण भर (मुहूर्त) में भस्म कर दिया।
English Commentary
The total annihilation of Vishvamitra’s lineage is described here. The phrase bhasmī kṛtā (reduced to ash) signifies irreversible destruction. It wasn't just the sons but their entire support system—horses, chariots, and infantry—that vanished. The speed of this event (muhūrtena, in a moment) highlights the disparity in power. While the sons needed time to charge and aim weapons, the Sage's will was executed instantly. Addressing Vashistha as Mahātmanā (great soul) even in this act of destruction implies that his action was a necessary purification of aggressive adharma, rather than a sin.
