धर्म चक्रम् काल चक्रम् विष्णु चक्रम् तथैव च ।
वायव्यम् मथनम् चैव अस्त्रम् हय शिरः तथा ॥ ॥१-५६-१०॥
Dharma cakram kāla cakram viṣṇu cakram tathaiva ca |
Vāyavyam mathanam caiva astram haya śiraḥ tathā ॥1-56-10॥
Translation
He hurled the Dharma-disk, the Kala-disk, and the Vishnu-disk; also the Vayavya, Mathana, and Hayashiras weapons.

धर्मचक्र, कालचक्र और विष्णुचक्र; तथा वायव्य, मथन और हयशिरा नामक अस्त्र भी चलाए।
English Commentary
Vishvamitra deploys the rotating discs (Chakras), symbols of cosmic order and destruction. The Vishnu Chakra is particularly potent, representing divine preservation turned into a weapon. Vayavya utilizes the power of wind. Mathana implies a weapon that churns or agitates painfully. The inventory of weapons is exhaustive, covering every aspect of Hindu cosmology. It serves to magnify the impending miracle: that all this cosmic complexity is about to be nullified by simple spiritual grounding.

अब 'चक्रों' की बारी है। 'विष्णुचक्र' का प्रयोग अत्यंत दुर्लभ और गंभीर है, क्योंकि यह पालनकर्ता विष्णु की शक्ति है। 'धर्मचक्र' और 'कालचक्र' नियम और समय की गति को नियंत्रित करने वाले अस्त्र हैं। 'हयशिरा' (घोड़े के सिर वाला) एक विशेष तांत्रिक या पौराणिक अस्त्र है। विश्वामित्र ने सृष्टि के तीनों प्रमुख देवों (ब्रह्मा, विष्णु, महेश) से संबंधित शक्तियों का आह्वान कर लिया है। यह सूची दर्शाती है कि विश्वामित्र ने कितनी कठोर तपस्या की थी इन सबको प्राप्त करने के लिए, पर वे इनका प्रयोग गलत स्थान पर कर रहे हैं।
