ब्रह्मदण्डम् समुद्यम्य काल दण्डम् इव अपरम् ।
वसिष्ठो भगवान् क्रोधात् इदम् वचनम् अब्रवीत् ॥ ॥१-५६-२॥
Brahmadandaṃ samudyamya kāla daṇḍam iva aparam |
Vasiṣṭho bhagavān krodhāt idam vacanam abravīt ॥1-56-2॥
Translation
Raising his Brahmadanda (Staff of Brahma), which appeared like a second Staff of Death (Kala-danda), the reverend Vasistha spoke these words out of anger.

भगवान वसिष्ठ ने दूसरे कालदंड (यमराज के दंड) के समान अपने ब्रह्मदंड को ऊपर उठाया और क्रोधपूर्वक यह वचन कहा।
English Commentary
The Brahmadanda represents the ultimate authority of spiritual law over physical force. By comparing it to the Kala-danda (the staff of Time/Death), the poet suggests that Vasistha holds the power of inevitable destiny in his hands. This is a defining moment where the passive symbol of an ascetic (the staff) transforms into an active weapon of cosmic magnitude. Vasistha's anger here is channeled focus, ready to nullify the aggression of the king.

वसिष्ठ जी के हाथ में जो साधारण लकड़ी की लाठी प्रतीत होती है, वह वास्तव में 'ब्रह्मदंड' है—तपस्या और ब्रह्मतेज का घनीभूत रूप। यहाँ उसकी तुलना 'कालदंड' से की गई है, जिसका अर्थ है कि अब यह दंड केवल रक्षात्मक नहीं, बल्कि संहारक भी हो सकता है। 'भगवान' शब्द वसिष्ठ के ऐश्वर्य और समग्रता को दर्शाता है। उनका 'क्रोध' व्यक्तिगत द्वेष नहीं, बल्कि धर्म की रक्षा के लिए उठी हुई एक सात्विक प्रतिक्रिया है। यह श्लोक ऋषि की अजेय शक्ति की स्थापना करता है।
