क्षत्र बन्धो स्थितो अस्मि एष यद् बलम् तद् विदर्शय ।
नाशयामि अद्य ते दर्पम् शस्त्रस्य तव गाधिज ॥ ॥१-५६-३॥
Kṣatra bandho sthito asmi eṣa yad balam tad vidarśaya |
Nāśayāmi adya te darpam śastrasya tava gādhij ॥1-56-3॥
Translation
"O wretch of a Kshatriya! Here I stand. Show whatever power you possess. O son of Gadhi, today I shall destroy your pride in your weaponry."

"रे क्षत्रिय-धम (क्षत्रियों में अधम)! मैं यहाँ खड़ा हूँ। तेरे पास जो भी बल है, उसे दिखा। हे गाधिपुत्र! आज मैं तेरे शस्त्र-बल के अहंकार को नष्ट कर दूँगा।"
English Commentary
Vasistha uses the derogatory term Kshatra-bandhu (a relative/friend of Kshatriyas, implying one who lacks the true virtues of the caste) to belittle Vishvamitra’s stature. This psychological blow is sharper than any physical weapon. By declaring he will destroy the darpa (arrogance) rather than just the person, Vasistha highlights the pedagogical nature of this conflict; he intends to school the king on the limitations of martial power. The phrase "Here I stand" signifies the immovability of Truth against the turbulence of ego.
