निगृहीतः त्वया ब्रह्मन् विश्वामित्रो महातपाः ।
प्रसीद जपताम् श्रेष्ठ लोकाः सन्तु गत व्यथाः ॥ ॥१-५६-२१॥
Nigṛhītaḥ tvayā brahman viśvāmitro mahātapāḥ |
Prasīda japatām śreṣṭha lokāḥ santu gata vyathāḥ ॥1-56-21॥
Translation
"O Brahman! You have restrained the mighty ascetic Vishvamitra. Be pleased, O best of chanters, and let the worlds be free from distress."
हिंदी अनुवाद
"हे ब्रह्मन्! आपने महातपस्वी विश्वामित्र को रोक (पराजित कर) दिया है। हे जप करने वालों में श्रेष्ठ! अब आप प्रसन्न (शांत) हो जाइए, ताकि तीनों लोक व्यथा-मुक्त हो सकें।"
English Commentary
The plea continues. The objective has been achieved: Vishvamitra is checked. The sages ask Vasistha to return to his natural state of Prasada (grace/calmness). The phrase 'let the worlds be free from distress' indicates that Vasistha's radiating heat was causing cosmic distress. A true victor must know when to stop, and Vasistha listens to the voice of the collective dharma.
हिंदी टीका
मुनिजन स्पष्ट करते हैं कि युद्ध समाप्त हो चुका है। विश्वामित्र 'निगृहीतः' (contain/subdue) हो चुके हैं। अब और क्रोध की आवश्यकता नहीं है। 'प्रसीद' (प्रसन्न हो जाओ/शांत हो जाओ) वसिष्ठ के लिए मंत्र जैसा कार्य करता है। जब तक वसिष्ठ शांत नहीं होते, लोक 'व्यथा' (पीड़ा/डर) में हैं। यह दिखाता है कि महापुरुषों का मूड (मनोदशा) पूरे ब्रह्मांड के वातावरण को प्रभावित करता है।
