तस्य अस्त्रम् गाधि पुत्रस्य घोरम् आग्नेयम् उत्तमम् ।
ब्रह्म दण्डेन तत् शांतम् अग्नेः वेग इव अंभसा ॥ ॥१-५६-५॥
Tasya astram gādhi putrasya ghoram āgneyam uttamam |
Brahma daṇḍena tat śāntam agneḥ vega iva aṃbhasā ॥1-56-5॥
Translation
That terrible and supreme Agneya Astra (Fire Weapon) of Gadhi's son was quelled by the Brahmadanda, just as the force of fire is quenched by water.

गाधिपुत्र (विश्वामित्र) का वह उत्तम और भयानक आग्नेय अस्त्र ब्रह्मदंड से वैसे ही शांत हो गया, जैसे जल से अग्नि का वेग शांत हो जाता है।
English Commentary
The imagery of fire and water perfectly illustrates the nature of the interaction. The Agneya Astra represents aggressive, burning energy. The Brahmadanda represents the cool, absorbing power of Truth. The weapon was not deflected; it was neutralized (shantam). This demonstrates that true spiritual power acts like a heat sink, absorbing negativity without being affected by it. It validates Vasistha’s claim that Brahma-bala is superior to the physical destructive force of the most potent missiles.

यहाँ 'शांतम्' शब्द अत्यंत महत्वपूर्ण है। ब्रह्मदंड ने आग्नेय अस्त्र को तोड़ा नहीं, उसे वापस नहीं भेजा, बल्कि उसे 'शांत' कर दिया (सोख लिया)। जैसे पानी आग को बुझा देता है, वैसे ही ऋषि की शांति ने राजा के क्रोध रूपी अग्नि को निष्प्रभावी कर दिया। यह अहिंसा की सर्वोच्च विजय है। आग्नेय अस्त्र 'घोर' (भयानक) और 'उत्तम' (श्रेष्ठ) था, फिर भी ब्रह्मदंड के सामने वह तुच्छ सिद्ध हुआ। यह सिद्ध करता है कि तपस्या की शीतलता क्रोध की अग्नि से अधिक शक्तिशाली है।
