अशक्यम् इति च अपि उक्तो वसिष्ठेन महात्मना ।
प्रत्याख्यातो वसिष्ठेन स ययौ दक्षिणाम् दिशम् ॥ ॥१-५८-१३॥
Aśakyam iti ca api ukto vasiṣṭhena mahātmanā |
Pratyākhyāto vasiṣṭhena sa yayau dakṣiṇām diśam ॥1-58-13॥
Translation
And he was told by the great soul Vashistha that it was "impossible." Rejected by Vashistha, he went toward the southern direction.

English Commentary
Vashistha’s definitive verdict, Aśakyam (impossible), stems from his commitment to upholding the universal laws of Dharma, which he views as absolute. The King's rejection by the Mahātman (great soul) is a powerful act of institutional blockading. Trishanku’s subsequent move to the southern direction mirrors Vishwamitra’s earlier movement (verse 2). This geographical alignment foreshadows their imminent and desperate alliance, where the King seeks the one sage who is willing to challenge Vashistha's authority and, by extension, the established cosmic order.
