इक्ष्वाकूणाम् अतिरथो यज्वा धर्मपरो वशी ।
महर्षिकल्पो राजर्षिः त्रिषु लोकेषु विश्रुतः ॥१-६-२॥
ikṣvākūṇām atiratho yajvā dharmaparo vaśī । maharṣikalpo rājarṣiḥ triṣu lokeṣu viśrutaḥ ॥1-6-2॥
Translation
He was a great warrior (Atiratha) among the Ikshvakus, a performer of sacrifices (Yajvā), devoted to righteousness (Dharmaparaḥ), and self-controlled (Vaśī). He was like a great sage (Maharṣikalpaḥ), a Royal Sage (Rājarṣiḥ), and was famous throughout the three worlds (Triṣu Lokeṣu Viśrutaḥ).

Ikṣvākūṇām Atirathaḥ - A Great Warrior of the Ikshvakus: Atiratha literally means "one who fights from a great chariot" but signifies a warrior of the highest rank—one who is equal to many thousands of ordinary chariot warriors (Rathis) combined. This establishes his military prowess, essential for protecting his kingdom and its people.
Yajvā Dharmaparo Vaśī - Sacrificer, Righteous, and Self-Controlled: This highlights his commitment to the Vedic tradition, signifying he was not just a king but also an observer of religious duties.
