Translation
"(This statement) spoken by you is shameless, censured even by dharma, and is a transgression of my word—it is terrible and causes the hair to stand on end."

"तुमने भय रहित होकर यह बात कही, जो धर्म से भी निन्दित है और मेरे वचन का उल्लंघन है, यह दारुण (भयानक) और रोंगटे खड़े कर देने वाला है।"
English Commentary
Viśvāmitra condemned his sons' argument as niḥsādhvasam (shameless/insolent), dharmāt api vigarhitam (censured even by dharma), and dāruṇam roma harṣaṇam (terrible and hair-raising). This indicates the extreme gravity of the sons' offense. Transgressing a great sage's command (atikramya mat vākyam) and then equating it with impure dog-meat was an ultimate censure of dharma. Viśvāmitra's statement reveals the intensity of his anger and is a prelude to the terrible curse he was about to pronounce. This verse establishes that the sons' punishment was deserved not only for disobeying their father but also for violating the tenets of dharma.
