Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
तस्य विश्रममाणस्य शुनःशेपो महायशाः ।
पुष्करम् ज्येष्ठम् आगम्य विश्वामित्रम् ददर्श ह ॥१-६२-२॥
tasya viśramamāṇasya śunaḥśepo mahāyaśāḥ |
puṣkaram jyeṣṭham āgamya viśvāmitram dadarśa ha ॥1-62-2॥
Translation
While he (the King) was resting, the highly renowned Śunaḥśepa arrived at the excellent Puṣkara (tīrtha) and saw Viśvāmitra.
हिंदी अनुवाद
जब वे विश्राम कर रहे थे, तब महायशस्वी शुनःशेप (घूमते हुए) श्रेष्ठ पुष्कर क्षेत्र में पहुँचकर, विश्वामित्र को देखा।
English Commentary
Śunaḥśepa is also referred to here as 'highly renowned' (mahāyaśāḥ), highlighting the significance of his upcoming actions and sacrifice. While the King was resting, Śunaḥśepa entered the sacred area of the 'excellent Puṣkara' tīrtha. It was his good fortune that he saw the great sage Viśvāmitra there. Viśvāmitra's presence at Puṣkara, a center for penance, was like a divine intervention for Śunaḥśepa. As Viśvāmitra was his maternal uncle (as hinted in the next verse), it was natural for Śunaḥśepa to seek help. This encounter provided him with a final, desperate hope of saving his life.

शुनःशेप को भी यहाँ 'महायशाः' (महान यशस्वी) कहा गया है, जो उसके आगामी कर्मों और त्याग के महत्व को दर्शाता है। राजा के विश्राम के दौरान, शुनःशेप ने पवित्र 'ज्येष्ठ पुष्कर' तीर्थ के क्षेत्र में प्रवेश किया। यह उसका सौभाग्य था कि उसने वहाँ महर्षि विश्वामित्र को देखा। विश्वामित्र का पुष्कर में उपस्थित होना, जो कि एक तपस्या का केंद्र था, शुनःशेप के लिए एक दैवीय हस्तक्षेप के समान था। विश्वामित्र उसके मामा थे (जैसा कि अगले श्लोक में संकेत है), इसलिए शुनःशेप को सहायता की अपेक्षा करना स्वाभाविक था। उसकी इस मुलाकात ने उसे अपने जीवन को बचाने की अंतिम आशा दी।
