Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
पपात अन्के मुने राम वाक्यम् च इदम् उवाच ह ।
न मे अस्ति माता न पिता ज्ञातयो बान्धवाः कुतः ॥१-६२-४॥
papāta anke mune rāma vākyam ca idam uvāca ha |
na me asti mātā na pitā jñātayo bāndhavāḥ kutaḥ ॥1-62-4॥
Translation
O Rāma, he fell onto the lap of the sage (Viśvāmitra) and spoke these words: "I have neither a mother nor a father; how can I then have other relatives or friends?"
हिंदी अनुवाद
हे राम! वह मुनि (विश्वामित्र) की गोद में गिर पड़ा और यह वचन कहा: "न तो मेरी कोई माता है और न कोई पिता, फिर (अन्य) संबंधी और बंधु-बांधव कहाँ से होंगे?"
English Commentary
At the peak of his desperation, Śunaḥśepa fell directly onto Viśvāmitra's lap, symbolizing complete surrender and a final plea for safety. He stated that he had neither a mother nor a father—though they were alive—because they had forsaken him by selling him. This statement is emotionally poignant: for him, they were no longer parents who had sold him into death. Feeling utterly orphaned by this abandonment, he concludes that if his parents are gone, how can he have other relatives and friends? This pathetic appeal was an effort to awaken Viśvāmitra's compassion and motivate him to intervene on his behalf.

अपनी दयनीयता की पराकाष्ठा पर, शुनःशेप सीधे विश्वामित्र की गोद में गिर पड़ा, जो पूर्ण आत्म-समर्पण और सुरक्षा की अंतिम याचना का प्रतीक है। उसने कहा कि उसके माता-पिता नहीं हैं, यद्यपि वे जीवित थे, लेकिन उन्होंने उसे बेचकर त्याग दिया था। उसका यह कथन भावनात्मक रूप से अत्यंत मार्मिक है—उसके लिए अब वे माता-पिता नहीं रहे, जिन्होंने उसे मृत्यु के हाथों बेच दिया। इस त्याग की भावना के कारण वह स्वयं को पूर्णतः अनाथ महसूस करता है, इसलिए वह कहता है कि जब माता-पिता ही नहीं हैं, तो अन्य रिश्तेदार और मित्र कहाँ से होंगे? यह मार्मिक पुकार विश्वामित्र की करुणा को जगाने और उन्हें अपने बचाव के लिए प्रेरित करने का प्रयास था।
