सर्वम् सुराणाम् कर्म एतत् तपो अपहरणम् महत् ।
अहो रात्रा अपदेशेन गताः संवत्सरा दश ॥१-६३-११॥
sarvam surāṇām karma etat tapo apaharaṇam mahat । aho rātrā apadeśena gatāḥ saṃvatsarā daśa ॥ ॥1-63-11॥
Translation
All this is the deed of the gods, this great act of stealing my penance. Ten years have passed under the guise of day and night (or, while I was oblivious to the passage of time).

यह सब देवताओं का कर्म है, यह तपस्या के अपहरण का महान कार्य है। (एक दिन और रात के बहाने) दस वर्ष व्यतीत हो गए हैं।
English Commentary
In this verse, Vishvamitra attributes the cause of his mistake to the deception of the gods. "Sarvam surāṇām karma etat" (All this is the deed of the gods) is the sage's recognition that Menaka was merely a pawn, while the real conspirators were the deities, who feared his penance. He called it "tapo apaharaṇam mahat" (this great act of stealing my penance), which shows the value of his penance and the sorrow of its destruction. "Aho rātrā apadeśena gatāḥ saṃvatsarā daśa" (Ten years have passed under the guise of day and night) expresses the depth of his obliviousness. The sage did not even realize the passing of time, which is proof of his complete absorption in lustful delusion. This expression not only shows his repentance but also reveals his deep dissatisfaction with this trick of the gods, which further strengthens his resolve.

इस श्लोक में विश्वामित्र ने अपनी गलती का कारण देवताओं के छल को बताया। 'सर्वम् सुराणाम् कर्म एतत्' (यह सब देवताओं का कर्म है) मुनि की यह पहचान है कि मेनका केवल एक मोहरा थी, जबकि असली साजिशकर्ता देवगण थे, जो उनके तप से डरते थे। उन्होंने इसे 'तपो अपहरणम् महत्' (तपस्या के अपहरण का महान कार्य) कहा, जो उनकी तपस्या के मूल्य और उसके नष्ट होने के दुःख को दर्शाता है। 'अहो रात्रा अपदेशेन गताः संवत्सरा दश' (दिन और रात के बहाने दस वर्ष व्यतीत हो गए हैं) उनकी विस्मृति की गहराई को व्यक्त करता है। मुनि को समय बीतने का एहसास तक नहीं हुआ, जो उनके काम-मोह में पूर्ण लीन होने का प्रमाण है। यह अभिव्यक्ति न केवल उनके पश्चाताप को दर्शाती है, बल्कि देवताओं की इस चाल के प्रति उनके गहरे असंतोष को भी प्रकट करती है, जिससे उनका संकल्प और भी मजबूत होता है।
