उत्तरे पर्वते राम देवतानाम् अभूत् भयम् ।
अमंत्रयन् समागम्य सर्वे स ऋषि गणाः सुराः ॥१-६३-१६॥
uttare parvate rāma devatānām abhūt bhayam |
amantrayan samāgamya sarve sa ṛṣi gaṇāḥ surāḥ ॥1-63-16॥
Translation
O Rama! Fear arose among the gods upon witnessing the penance in the northern mountains. All the celestials, gathering together with groups of sages, held a consultation.
हिंदी अनुवाद
हे राम! उत्तर दिशा के पर्वतों में (विश्वामित्र की तपस्या देखकर) देवताओं को भय उत्पन्न हो गया। तब समस्त देवताओं ने ऋषि-गणों के साथ मिलकर मंत्रणा की।
English Commentary
Shatananda is narrating the lineage and history of Sage Vishvamitra to Prince Rama. The verse highlights the cosmic impact of intense asceticism (tapas). Vishvamitra’s penance in the northern Himalayas generated such spiritual heat that the celestial hierarchy felt threatened. In the Vedic framework, when a mortal performs severe penance, it often destabilizes the heavens, causing anxiety (bhayam) among the Devas lest the ascetic usurp Indra's throne. The consultation between gods and sages signifies the gravity of the situation, necessitating an appeal to the supreme authority, Lord Brahma.

यहाँ शतानन्द जी श्री राम को विश्वामित्र के तपोबल का इतिहास सुना रहे हैं। विश्वामित्र की तपस्या इतनी उग्र थी कि उससे उत्पन्न तेज ने ब्रह्मांडीय संतुलन को हिला दिया, जिससे इन्द्र और अन्य देवताओं को अपना पद छिन जाने का भय सताने लगा। यह श्लोक स्पष्ट करता है कि कठोर तपस्या केवल आत्म-शुद्धि का साधन नहीं, बल्कि एक ऐसी शक्ति है जो देवलोक को भी कंपित कर सकती है। देवताओं का ऋषियों के साथ मंत्रणा करना यह दर्शाता है कि वे इस तप के परिणाम को लेकर चिंतित थे और ब्रह्मा जी से हस्तक्षेप की प्रार्थना करना चाहते थे।
