English Commentary
Brahma formalizes the promotion, granting Vishvamitra status as a chief among sages. The term "Mahattvam" implies greatness that commands respect from other ascetics. However, for a persistent seeker like Vishvamitra, who abandoned a kingdom to rival Vasistha (a Brahmarishi), being "chief among Rishis" is a consolation prize, not the victory. The narrative tension builds here as the audience waits to see if the fiery Vishvamitra will accept this partial recognition or strive for the absolute peak of spirituality.
