प्रांजलिः प्रणतो भूत्वा प्रत्युवाच पितामहम् ।
ब्रह्मर्षि शब्दम् अतुलम् स्व अर्जितैः कर्मभिः शुभैः ॥१-६३-२०॥
prāṃjaliḥ praṇato bhūtvā pratyuvāca pitāmaham |
brahmarṣi śabdam atulam sva arjitaiḥ karmabhiḥ śubhaiḥ ॥1-63-20॥
Translation
...bowing down with folded palms, replied to the Grandfather: "(If) I have earned the incomparable title of 'Brahmarishi' by my own accumulated auspicious deeds..."

...हाथ जोड़कर और प्रणाम करके पितामह से बोले—"(यदि) मैंने अपने द्वारा अर्जित शुभ कर्मों से अतुलनीय 'ब्रह्मर्षि' पद प्राप्त कर लिया है..."
English Commentary
Vishvamitra displays humility (pranata) by bowing, yet his ambition remains unshaken. He does not merely accept the title given; instead, he queries regarding the title he desires: "Brahmarishi." The use of sva arjitaiḥ (self-earned) highlights the ethos of the path of Yoga—attainment must come from personal effort and accumulated merit (karma), not merely divine grace. He views the title of Brahmarishi as "incomparable" (atulam), indicating that for him, anything less is insufficient. He is respectfully negotiating his spiritual status with the Creator.
