दृष्ट्वा कन्दर्प वशगो मुनिः ताम् इदम् अब्रवीत् ।
अप्सरः स्वागतम् ते अस्तु वस च इह मम आश्रमे ॥१-६३-६॥
dṛṣṭvā kaṃdarpa vaśago muniḥ tām idam abravīt । apsaraḥ svāgatam te astu vasa ca iha mama āśrame ॥ ॥1-63-6॥
Translation
Having seen her, the sage, who had fallen under the sway of Kandarpa (the God of Love), said this to her: "O Apsara! Let there be welcome to you, and stay here in my hermitage."

उसे देखकर, कामदेव के वश में हुए मुनि ने उससे यह कहा: "हे अप्सरा! तुम्हारा स्वागत है, और तुम यहाँ मेरे आश्रम में रहो।"
English Commentary
This verse depicts the momentary collapse of Vishvamitra's years of penance. The phrase 'kaṃdarpa vaśago' (fallen under the sway of the God of Love) is extremely significant, as it acknowledges that the sage lost control of his mind and completely succumbed to desire. For a great ascetic whose goal was self-restraint, this was a major defeat. His saying 'svāgatam te astu' (welcome to you) to Menaka and inviting her to 'vasa ca iha mama āśrame' (stay here in my hermitage) is the height of the delusion within him. The hermitage is a place of solitude and austerity, yet the sage himself is allowing a temptation that is a direct threat to his penance to enter. This incident shows that the gods' attempt was successful and that Kama can easily penetrate the resolve of even the greatest ascetic. This verse highlights the universal truth of human vulnerability, despite great power.
