Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
तथा उक्ता स अप्सरा राम सहस्राक्षेण धीमता ।
व्रीडिता प्रांजलिः वाक्यम् प्रत्युवाच सुर ईश्वरम् ॥१-६४-२॥
tathā uktā sa apsarā rāma sahasrākṣeṇa dhīmatā |
vrīḍitā prāṃjaliḥ vākyam pratyuvāca sura īśvaram ॥1-64-2॥
Translation
O Rama! Being addressed thus by the wise thousand-eyed Indra, that Apsara (Rambha), feeling abashed and apprehensive, folded her palms and replied to the Lord of Celestials.
हिंदी अनुवाद
हे राम! बुद्धिमान सहस्रनेत्रधारी इंद्र के ऐसा कहने पर, वह अप्सरा (रंभा) लज्जित और संकुचित होकर, हाथ जोड़कर सुरेश्वर से बोली।
English Commentary
This verse captures the reluctance of Rambha. Despite being a celestial nymph accustomed to following Indra's commands, she displays hesitation (vrīḍitā). Addressing Indra as the 'Lord of Celestials,' she maintains protocol, yet her folded palms signify a plea. She is acutely aware of the danger inherent in disturbing a sage of Vishvamitra's caliber. The narrative highlights that even celestial beings are not immune to fear when facing the spiritual fire (tejas) of a determined ascetic.

यहाँ रंभा की मानसिक स्थिति का चित्रण है। यद्यपि अप्सराएँ देवलोक की नर्तकियाँ हैं, किन्तु एक महातेजस्वी ऋषि की तपस्या भंग करना साधारण कार्य नहीं है। 'व्रीडिता' शब्द यहाँ केवल लज्जा नहीं, बल्कि संकोच और भय मिश्रित विनम्रता को दर्शाता है। रंभा जानती है कि वह दो शक्तियों—देवराज इंद्र की आज्ञा और विश्वामित्र के संभावित क्रोध—के बीच फँस गई है। वह हाथ जोड़कर अपनी विवशता व्यक्त करने का प्रयास करती है।
