ब्रह्म पुत्रो वसिष्ठो माम् एवम् वदतु देवताः ।
यदि अयम् परमः कामः कृतो यान्तु सुरर्षभाः ॥ ॥१-६५-२४॥
Brahma putro vasiṣṭho mām evam vadatu devatāḥ । Yadi ayam paramaḥ kāmaḥ kṛto yāntu surarṣabhāḥ ॥ ॥1-65-24॥
Translation
"O Gods! Let Vashistha, the son of Brahma, address me thus (as Brahmarishi). If this supreme desire of mine is fulfilled, then, O bulls among gods, you may depart."
हिंदी अनुवाद
"हे देवताओं! ब्रह्माजी के पुत्र वशिष्ठ मुझे ऐसा (ब्रह्मर्षि) कहकर पुकारें। यदि मेरी यह परम कामना पूर्ण हो जाए, तो हे श्रेष्ठ देवताओं, आप अपने धाम को जाएँ।"
English Commentary
This request reveals the deep psychological and social resolution Vishvamitra seeks. Vashistha had been the barrier to his ambition, constantly reminding him of his limitations. By asking Vashistha to validate his title, Vishvamitra isn't showing pettiness, but a desire for total reconciliation and indisputable legitimacy. If his greatest rival acknowledges him, the world must follow. He conditions the departure of the gods on this reconciliation, ensuring the conflict ends right there in the presence of the divine.

यह विश्वामित्र के चरित्र की महानता और संघर्ष का समापन है। वशिष्ठ ही वे व्यक्ति थे जिन्होंने उन्हें बार-बार 'राजर्षि' कहकर रोका था। विश्वामित्र जानते हैं कि जब तक उनका सबसे बड़ा प्रतिद्वंद्वी/आलोचक उन्हें स्वीकार नहीं करता, उनकी जीत अधूरी है। यह अहंकार नहीं, बल्कि वशिष्ठ के प्रति सम्मान और पुरानी शत्रुता को समाप्त करने का प्रयास है। वशिष्ठ की स्वीकृति ही अंतिम मुहर है। वे देवताओं को तब तक जाने से रोकते हैं जब तक वशिष्ठ उन्हें मान्यता नहीं दे देते।
