Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
सः कृत्वा निश्चयम् राम तप आतिष्टत् अव्ययम् ।
तस्य वर्ष सहस्रस्य व्रते पूर्णे महाव्रतः ॥१-६५-४॥
saḥ kṛtvā niścayam rāma tapa ātiṣṭat avyayam |
tasya varṣa sahasrasya vrate pūrṇe mahāvrataḥ ॥1-65-4॥
Translation
O Rama! Having made a resolve, he remained fixed in imperishable penance. Thus, the vow of thousand years of that one of great vows was completed.
हिंदी अनुवाद
हे राम! निश्चय करके वे अव्यय (अक्षय) तपस्या में स्थित रहे। उस महाव्रती (विश्वामित्र) का एक हजार वर्ष का वह व्रत पूर्ण हुआ।
English Commentary
This verse confirms the successful conclusion of the time-bound vow. Vishvamitra stood firm in avyayam (undecaying/steady) penance. The title Mahavratah (he of the great vow) is earned here. Unlike previous times where he abandoned the vow midway due to lust or anger, this time he crosses the finish line of the thousand-year duration. However, the final test of character awaits at the very moment of completion.

यह श्लोक पुष्टि करता है कि विश्वामित्र ने अपनी प्रतिज्ञा पूरी कर ली। 'अव्यय' तप का अर्थ है ऐसा तप जिसका फल कभी नष्ट न हो। वे अपने संकल्प से डिगे नहीं। 'महाव्रतः' संबोधन उनके दृढ़ चरित्र का सम्मान करता है। अब वे परीक्षा के अंतिम चरण के लिए तैयार हैं, जो व्रत समाप्ति के ठीक बाद आती है।
