यस्मात् भाग अर्थिनो भागान् न अकल्पयत मे सुराः ।
वर अंगानि महाअर्हाणि धनुषा शातयामि वः ॥ ॥१-६६-१०॥
Yasmāt bhāga arthino bhāgān na akalpayata me surāḥ |
vara aṅgāni mahāarhāṇi dhanuṣā śātayāmi vaḥ ॥1-66-10॥
Translation
"O Gods, since you did not allot a share to me, who desired a share, I shall sever your precious and most worthy limbs (heads) with this bow."

"हे देवताओं! चूँकि मैं यज्ञ में भाग का अभिलाषी था, फिर भी तुमने मेरे लिए भाग की कल्पना (व्यवस्था) नहीं की, इसलिए अब मैं इस धनुष से तुम्हारे अति पूज्य (महार्चा) और श्रेष्ठ अंगों (सिरों) को काट डालूँगा।"
English Commentary
Janaka quotes Shiva's threat to the gods. In Vedic tradition, denying a deity their sacrificial share (bhaga) is a grave insult. Shiva warns that he will use this very bow to sever their vara angani (best limbs/heads). This emphasizes the terrifying pedigree of the weapon standing before Rama. It is not a human artifact but a divine instrument capable of slaying immortals. The backstory serves to heighten the awe surrounding the task of stringing such a bow.

यह शिवजी का संवाद है जो उस समय उन्होंने देवताओं से कहा था। वैदिक यज्ञों में सभी देवताओं का एक निश्चित भाग (हवि) होता है, लेकिन दक्ष ने शिव को इससे वंचित रखा था। इसी अपमान के कारण शिव ने यह चेतावनी दी। 'वर अंगानि' का अर्थ है श्रेष्ठ अंग, अर्थात मस्तक। शिव का यह कथन इस धनुष की संहारक शक्ति का प्रमाण है—यह वह शस्त्र है जिससे महादेव स्वयं देवताओं का संहार करने को उद्यत हुए थे। ऐसे भयंकर आयुध को जनक के यहाँ सुरक्षित रखा गया है।
