प्रत्याख्याता नृपतयः तन् निबोध तपोधन ।
ततः परम कोपेन राजानो मुनिपुंगव ॥ ॥१-६६-२०॥
Pratyākhyātā nṛpatayaḥ tan nibodha tapodhana |
Tataḥ parama kopena rājāno munipuṃgava ॥1-66-20॥
Translation
The kings were thus rejected; please understand this, O Ascetic whose wealth is penance. Then, O best of sages, those kings were filled with supreme anger.
हिंदी अनुवाद
हे तपोधन (तप ही जिनका धन है)! इस प्रकार राजाओं को अस्वीकार (प्रत्याख्यात) कर दिया गया, इसे आप जानें। हे मुनिपुंगव! इसके बाद वे राजा अत्यंत क्रोधित हो गए।
English Commentary
Rejection bred resentment. Janaka informs Vishvamitra (Tapodhana - Wealthy in Penance) that the kings did not take their failure gracefully. Instead of accepting their lack of capacity, they felt insulted by the rejection (pratyakhyatah). Their response was parama kopa (supreme anger). This reaction typifies the egoistic nature of worldly power when confronted with divine standards it cannot meet. They viewed the test not as a spiritual assessment, but as a personal slight by King Janaka.

जब राजाओं को उनकी अयोग्यता के कारण लौटा दिया गया ('प्रत्याख्याता'), तो उन्हें अपनी हार स्वीकार करने के बजाय क्रोध आ गया। एक सच्चा वीर अपनी कमी स्वीकार करता है और सुधार करता है, लेकिन अहंकारी व्यक्ति अपनी असफलता का दोष दूसरों पर मढ़ता है और क्रोधित होता है। 'परम कोपेन' (अत्यंत क्रोध से) यह दर्शाता है कि उनका विवेक नष्ट हो गया था। जनक विश्वामित्र को 'तपोधन' कहकर संबोधित करते हैं, जो राजाओं के भौतिक अभिमान और ऋषि के तपोबल के बीच का अंतर स्पष्ट करता है।
