क्व गतिः मानुषाणाम् च धनुषो अस्य प्रपूरणे ।
आरोपणे समायोगे वेपने तोलने अपि वा ॥ ॥१-६७-१०॥
Kva gatiḥ mānuṣāṇām ca dhanuṣo asya prapūraṇe |
Āropaṇe samāyoge vepane tolane api vā ॥1-67-10॥
Translation
"What capacity do humans have in bending this bow, stringing it, fitting an arrow to it, plucking the string, or even weighing (lifting) it?"
हिंदी अनुवाद
"(जब देवता भी असमर्थ हैं) तो मनुष्यों की क्या गति (बिसात)? इस धनुष को पूरित करने (खींचने), उस पर प्रत्यंचा चढ़ाने (आरोपण), बाण संधान करने (समायोग), उसकी टंकार करने (वेपन) या उसे उठाने (तोलने) में (मनुष्य कैसे समर्थ हो सकते हैं?)"
English Commentary
This verse describes the technical actions related to archery. Janaka asks, Kva gatih manushanam ("What chance/course is there for humans?"). Aropana: to string (the bow). Samayoga: to fit the arrow. Vepana: to twang (the string). Tolana: to weigh/lift. Janaka implies that if humans cannot even lift the bow, all other actions are impossible. This is the complete definition of the challenge for Rama.
