Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
विश्वामित्रः स रामः तु श्रुत्वा जनक भाषितम् ।
वत्स राम धनुः पश्य इति राघवम् अब्रवीत् ॥ ॥१-६७-१२॥
Viśvāmitraḥ sa rāmaḥ tu śrutvā janaka bhāṣitam । Vatsa rāma dhanuḥ paśya iti rāghavam abravīt ॥ ॥1-67-12॥
Translation
Hearing the words of King Janaka, Vishvamitra said to Rama, "Oh child Rama! Look at this bow now."

राजा जनक की बात सुनकर विश्वामित्र ने श्रीराम से कहा—"हे वत्स राम! अब इस धनुष को देखो।"
English Commentary
This verse exemplifies the profound discipline and etiquette of the Guru-Shishya (teacher-student) tradition. Even though Rama possesses the divine strength to wield the bow, he remains passive until he receives a direct command from his Guru, Vishvamitra. Upon hearing King Janaka's despair regarding the lack of heroes on earth, Vishvamitra realizes the time has come to reveal Rama's prowess. The instruction "Look at the bow" is understated but carries immense weight; it is an implicit command to examine, lift, and string the divine weapon. It marks the transition of Rama from a spectator to the central actor in the assembly.

यह श्लोक गुरु-शिष्य परंपरा की मर्यादा और अनुशासन का सुंदर उदाहरण है। यद्यपि श्रीराम स्वयं महाशक्तिशाली हैं और धनुष उठाने में सक्षम हैं, फिर भी वे तब तक कोई पहल नहीं करते जब तक उनके गुरु विश्वामित्र उन्हें आज्ञा नहीं देते। राजा जनक की निराशाभरी बातें सुनकर विश्वामित्र समझ गए कि अब श्रीराम के पराक्रम को प्रकट करने का उचित समय आ गया है। 'पश्य' (देखो) शब्द का प्रयोग केवल देखने के लिए नहीं, बल्कि धनुष की परीक्षा लेने और उसे उठाने के संकेत के रूप में किया गया है। यह क्षण रामायण का एक निर्णायक मोड़ है जहाँ गुरु की एक आज्ञा इतिहास बदल देती है।
