आरोपयित्वा मौर्वीम् च पूरयामास वीर्यवान् ।
तत् बभंज धनुर् मध्य नरश्रेष्ठो महायशाः ॥ ॥१-६७-१७॥
Āropayitvā maurvīm ca pūrayāmāsa vīryavān । Tat babhañja dhanur madhye naraśreṣṭho mahāyaśāḥ ॥ ॥1-67-17॥
Translation
Having strung the bow, the mighty one drew it to the full. Just then, that bow broke in the middle by the act of that best among men, the gloriously famous Rama.

उस महायशस्वी और वीर नरश्रेष्ठ (श्रीराम) ने प्रत्यंचा चढ़ाकर उसे कान तक खींचा, और उसी समय वह धनुष बीच से टूट गया।
English Commentary
This is the climactic moment of the Bala Kanda. Rama did not just string the bow; he pulled the string to its full extension (purayamasa), demonstrating immense tensile strength. The bow, unable to withstand the divine energy and force applied by the Narasheshtha (best among men), snapped in half. This breaking is symbolic: it represents the shattering of impossibility and the beginning of a new era. The verse creates a vivid image of the precise moment of breakage, highlighting that the task was accomplished not by struggling with the bow, but by overpowering it with superior might.

यह इस प्रसंग का चरम उत्कर्ष (climax) है। श्रीराम ने केवल प्रत्यंचा नहीं चढ़ाई, बल्कि उसे 'पूरयामास' (पूरा खींचा)। उनकी शक्ति इतनी अधिक थी कि पुराना और जीर्ण शिव-धनुष उस तनाव को सहन नहीं कर सका और 'बभंज' (टूट गया)। यह टूटना प्रतीकात्मक भी है—यह पुराने युग का अंत और राम-राज्य के आगमन का संकेत है। 'नरश्रेष्ठ' और 'महायशाः' विशेषण श्रीराम की उस समय की स्थिति का वर्णन करते हैं—वे अब केवल एक राजकुमार नहीं, बल्कि विश्व में सर्वश्रेष्ठ योद्धा और यश के भागी बन गए हैं। सीता स्वयंवर की शर्त न केवल पूरी हुई, बल्कि उससे भी आगे निकल गई।
