Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
भगवन् दृष्ट वीर्यो मे रामो दशरथ आत्मजः ।
अति अद्भुतम् अचिंत्यम् च अतर्कितम् इदम् मया ॥ ॥१-६७-२१॥
Bhagavan dṛṣṭa vīryo me rāmo daśaratha ātmajaḥ । Ati adbhutam acintyam ca atarkitam idam mayā ॥ ॥1-67-21॥
Translation
"O Lord! I have witnessed the prowess of Rama, the son of Dasharatha. This event is most wonderful, unthinkable, and beyond my reasoning."
हिंदी अनुवाद
"हे भगवन! मैंने दशरथनंदन श्रीराम का पराक्रम देख लिया। यह घटना मेरे लिए अत्यंत अद्भुत, अचिंतनीय और तर्क से परे (अप्रत्याशित) है।"
English Commentary
Janaka expresses his sheer awe using three powerful adjectives: adbhutam (wonderful), achintyam (unthinkable), and atarkitam (unexpected/beyond logic). Even though he had set the condition, witnessing the actual breaking of the divine bow was an overwhelming experience. He admits that the magnitude of Rama's strength exceeded all his calculations. He refers to Rama as Dasharatha atmaja (son of Dasharatha), linking the feat to the illustrious solar dynasty. This verse captures the genuine reaction of a witness to a divine miracle—total suspension of logic in the face of supreme power.

राजा जनक का विस्मय इन शब्दों में फूट पड़ा है। यद्यपि वे ज्ञानी हैं, फिर भी श्रीराम का कार्य उनकी कल्पना से परे था। उन्होंने 'अद्भुत' (चमत्कारिक), 'अचिंत्यम्' (जिसके बारे में सोचा भी नहीं जा सकता) और 'अतर्कितम्' (जिसका कोई तर्क या अनुमान न लगाया गया हो) शब्दों का प्रयोग किया। जनक को आशा थी कि शायद राम धनुष चढ़ा लेंगे, लेकिन धनुष का टूट जाना उनकी अपेक्षा से कहीं अधिक था। वे स्वीकार करते हैं कि उनकी प्रतिज्ञा का इतना भव्य समापन उन्होंने स्वप्न में भी नहीं सोचा था। यह एक पिता और एक राजा, दोनों की मिली-जुली भावना है।
