तेषाम् नृपो वचः श्रुत्वा कृत अंजलिः अभाषत ।
विश्वामित्रम् महात्मानम् तौ उभौ राम लक्ष्मणौ ॥ ॥१-६७-७॥
Teṣām nṛpo vacaḥ śrutvā kṛta añjaliḥ abhāṣata |
Viśvāmitram mahātmānam tau ubhau rāma lakṣmaṇau ॥1-67-7॥
Translation
Hearing their words, the King, with folded hands, spoke to the high-souled Vishvamitra and to both Rama and Lakshmana.
हिंदी अनुवाद
उनके (मंत्रियों के) वचन सुनकर, राजा (जनक) ने हाथ जोड़कर (कृतांजलि) महात्मा विश्वामित्र और उन दोनों राम-लक्ष्मण से कहा।
English Commentary
Upon receiving the bow, Janaka assumes a posture of humility (krita anjalih - palms joined in salutation). He addresses Vishvamitra and the brothers. This gesture is significant; despite being the host and the challenger, Janaka maintains the etiquette of a disciple before a sage and a gracious host before his guests. He prepares to make the formal introduction of the weapon to the potential suitor.

जनक का व्यवहार देखिए। वे राजा हैं, अपने दरबार में हैं, फिर भी वे 'कृत अंजलिः' (हाथ जोड़े हुए) हैं। यह ऋषियों और ब्राह्मणों के प्रति क्षत्रिय राजाओं की सनातन विनम्रता है। साथ ही, वे राम और लक्ष्मण का भी सम्मान कर रहे हैं क्योंकि वे जानते हैं कि ये साधारण बालक नहीं हैं। जनक अब औपचारिक रूप से धनुष का परिचय विश्वामित्र और राजकुमारों से कराने जा रहे हैं।
