English Commentary
The envoys begin by establishing the character of their sender. Janaka is introduced as Agnihotra puraskritah—one who prioritizes his sacred duties. This validates the righteousness of the alliance. The manner of Janaka’s inquiry is described as being made muhur muhur (again and again) and with a voice colored by affection (sneha samraktaya). This emphasizes that Janaka views Dasharatha not just as a political counterpart, but as a cherished relation. The preamble sets a tone of warmth and deep respect.

यहाँ से दूतों का संदेश आरंभ होता है। वे सबसे पहले राजा जनक का परिचय 'अग्निहोत्र पुरस्कृतः' (जो अग्निहोत्र को आगे रखते हैं/धार्मिक हैं) के रूप में देते हैं, जो उनकी सात्विकता सिद्ध करता है। 'मुहुर् मुहुर्' (बार-बार) और 'स्नेह संरक्तया' (स्नेह में रगी हुई) शब्दों से पता चलता है कि जनक का संदेश औपचारिकता मात्र नहीं है, बल्कि उसमें दशरथ के प्रति गहरा आत्मीय प्रेम है। दूत सीधे मुद्दे पर न आकर पहले संबंधों की मिठास घोल रहे हैं।
