तत् च रत्नम् धनुर् दिव्यम् मध्ये भग्नम् महात्मना ।
रामेण हि महाबाहो महत्याम् जन संसदि ॥ ॥१-६८-९॥
Tat ca ratnam dhanur divyam madhye bhagnam mahātmanā । Rāmeṇa hi mahābāho mahatyām jana saṃsadi ॥ ॥1-68-9॥
Translation
"O mighty-armed one! That divine and gem-like bow was broken in the middle by the high-souled Rama in the presence of a great assembly."

"हे महाबाहु (दशरथ)! वह दिव्य और श्रेष्ठ (रत्नस्वरूप) धनुष, उस विशाल जनसभा के बीचों-बीच, महात्मा श्रीराम द्वारा मध्य भाग से तोड़ दिया गया।"
English Commentary
The messengers vividly describe the feat to Dasharatha. They refer to the bow as a ratnam (jewel), signifying it was the finest and most precious of weapons. The breaking happened in mahatyam jana samsadi (a massive assembly of people), emphasizing the legitimacy and public validation of the act. By calling Rama mahatmana (great-souled), the envoys are not just reporting a physical feat but elevating Rama’s stature. Addressing Dasharatha as mahabaho (mighty-armed) connects the father's prowess to the son's achievement, suggesting the apple hasn't fallen far from the tree.

दूत राजा दशरथ को घटना का आंखों देखा हाल सुना रहे हैं। धनुष को 'रत्नम्' कहा गया है, जिसका अर्थ है अपनी श्रेणी में सर्वश्रेष्ठ। वह कोई साधारण लकड़ी का धनुष नहीं, बल्कि दिव्य था। सबसे महत्वपूर्ण बात यह है कि यह कार्य 'महत्याम् जन संसदि' (विशाल जनसभा) में हुआ, अर्थात यह कोई छिपी हुई घटना नहीं थी, बल्कि हजारों गवाहों के सामने प्रमाणित सत्य है। राम को 'महात्मना' कहकर दूत यह संकेत दे रहे हैं कि आपके पुत्र ने वह कर दिखाया है जो देवताओं के लिए भी कठिन था। यह दशरथ के पितृ-हृदय को गर्व से भरने वाला क्षण है।
