Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
विश्वामित्रम् पुरस्कृत्य पितुः पादौ उपस्पृशन् ।
राजा च राघवौ पुत्रौ निशाम्य परिहर्षितः ॥ ॥१-६९-१८॥
Viśvāmitram puraskṛtya pituḥ pādau upaspṛśan । Rājā ca Rāghavau putrau niśāmya pariharṣitaḥ ॥ ॥1-69-18॥
Translation
Placing Vishvamitra in the front, they touched their father's feet. The King (Dasharatha), seeing his two Raghava sons, was filled with supreme joy.
हिंदी अनुवाद
विश्वामित्र जी को आगे करके (रघुनंदन राम और लक्ष्मण ने) पिता के चरणों का स्पर्श किया। राजा (दशरथ) भी रघुकुल के उन दोनों पुत्रों को देखकर परम हर्षित हुए।
English Commentary
This verse encapsulates the ideal conduct of a disciple and son. Rama and Lakshmana do not bypass protocol; they keep their preceptor, Vishvamitra, in the lead (puraskṛtya). They touch their father's feet, showing reverence. Dasharatha's reaction is one of overwhelming joy (pariharṣitaḥ). Seeing his sons returned safely, having gained fame and glory under Vishvamitra's tutelage, fulfills Dasharatha's deepest desires. It validates his difficult decision to let them go with the sage in the first place.

यहाँ भारतीय संस्कार स्पष्ट दिखाई देते हैं। यद्यपि राम और लक्ष्मण अपने पिता को बहुत दिनों बाद देख रहे हैं, वे सीधे उनसे गले मिलने नहीं दौड़ते। वे 'विश्वामित्रम् पुरस्कृत्य' (गुरु को आगे रखकर) आते हैं, जो यह दर्शाता है कि वे अभी भी गुरु के अनुशासन में हैं और उनकी सफलता का श्रेय गुरु को है। पहले गुरु सम्मान, फिर पिता के चरण स्पर्श। दशरथ अपने पुत्रों को सुरक्षित और विजयी देखकर 'परिहर्षित' (अत्यंत प्रसन्न) होते हैं। यह एक पिता की तृप्ति का क्षण है।
