उवाच वचनम् श्रेष्ठो नरश्रेष्ठम् मुदा अन्वितम् ।
स्वागतम् ते नरश्रेष्ठः दिष्ट्या प्राप्तो असि राघव ॥ ॥१-६९-९॥
Uvāca vacanam śreṣṭho naraśreṣṭham mudā anvitam । Svāgatam te naraśreṣṭhaḥ diṣṭyā prāpto asi Rāghava ॥ ॥1-69-9॥
Translation
The excellent one (Janaka), filled with joy, spoke these words to the best among men (Dasharatha): "Welcome to you, O Best of Men! O Raghava, by good fortune you have arrived."
हिंदी अनुवाद
श्रेष्ठ (जनक) ने प्रसन्नता से भरकर नरश्रेष्ठ (दशरथ) से यह वचन कहा: "हे नरश्रेष्ठ! आपका स्वागत है। हे राघव! यह बड़े भाग्य की बात है कि आप यहाँ पधारे हैं।"
English Commentary
King Janaka officially welcomes Dasharatha with formal yet warm greetings. Addressing Dasharatha as Nara-shrestha (Best among men) and Raghava (Descendant of Raghu), Janaka emphasizes the noble lineage of his guest. The phrase diṣṭyā prāpto asi ('By fortune/destiny you have arrived') suggests that Janaka views this visit not just as a travel arrangement, but as a destined event orchestrated by divine will. It expresses deep gratitude and relief that the alliance is proceeding smoothly.
