Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
वसिष्ठम् पुरतः कृत्वा महर्षीन् अपरान् अपि ।
वशिष्टःओ भगवान् एत्य वैदेहम् इदं अब्रवीत् ॥ ॥१-७३-१०॥
Vasiṣṭham purataḥ kṛtvā maharṣīn aparān api । Vasiṣṭho bhagavān etya vaideham idam abravīt ॥ ॥1-73-10॥
Translation
Placing Vasistha and the other great sages in the lead, they advanced. Then, the reverend Vasistha approached the King of Videha (Janaka) and spoke these words.
हिंदी अनुवाद
वसिष्ठ जी तथा अन्य महर्षियों को आगे करके (दशरथ जी चले)। तत्पश्चात् भगवान वसिष्ठ ने जाकर विदेहराज (जनक) से यह वचन कहा।
English Commentary
This verse establishes the diplomatic and spiritual protocol of the ceremony. King Dasharatha does not speak directly to Janaka initially; instead, he operates through his spiritual preceptor, Vasistha. This highlights the role of the Kula Guru (family preceptor) as the bridge between families. Vasistha addressing Janaka represents the formal initiation of the wedding rites at the venue. The use of the title Vaideha for Janaka reminds us of his detachment from the body (Videha), emphasizing that this marriage is a union of highly evolved spiritual lineages.

इस श्लोक में पुनः शिष्टाचार और पदानुक्रम (hierarchy) का पालन दिखता है। यद्यपि दशरथ राजा हैं, परन्तु विवाह का प्रस्ताव और रस्में कुल गुरु वसिष्ठ के माध्यम से ही आगे बढ़ाई जाती हैं। वसिष्ठ को यहाँ 'भगवान' कहा गया है, जो उनके ऐश्वर्य और ज्ञान का सूचक है। वे 'वैदेह' (विदेह राज जनक) के पास जाते हैं। यह संवाद दो राजाओं के बीच नहीं, बल्कि एक ब्रह्मर्षि और एक राजर्षि के बीच हो रहा है, जो इस विवाह की पवित्रता को और बढ़ा देता है।
