इति उक्तः परम उदारो वसिष्ठेन महात्मना ।
प्रत्युवाच महातेजा वाक्यम् परम धर्मवित् ॥ ॥१-७३-१३॥
Iti uktaḥ parama udāro Vasiṣṭhena mahātmanā । Pratyuvāca mahātejā vākyam parama dharmavit ॥ ॥1-73-13॥
Translation
Being thus addressed by the high-souled Vasistha, the supremely generous, highly radiant, and supreme knower of Dharma (Janaka) replied with these words.

महात्मा वसिष्ठ के द्वारा ऐसा कहे जाने पर, परम उदार, महातेजस्वी और धर्म के परम ज्ञाता राजा जनक ने यह वचन कहा।
English Commentary
The text heaps accolades upon King Janaka to match the stature of Sage Vasistha. He is called Parama Udara (supremely generous)—fitting for one about to give away four daughters. He is Mahateja (great splendor) and Parama Dharmavit (supreme knower of righteousness). This ensures the reader understands that this exchange is between equals in spiritual stature. Janaka's response, characterized by these qualities, indicates that he understands the weight of Vasistha's words and responds with equal dignity and wisdom.
