प्रतीच्छ च एनाम् भद्रम् ते पाणिम् गृह्णीष्व पाणिना ।
पतिव्रता महभागा छाय इव अनुगता सदा ॥ ॥१-७३-२७॥
Pratīccha ca enām bhadram te pāṇim gṛhṇīṣva pāṇinā |
Pativratā mahabhāgā chāya iva anugatā sadā ॥1-73-27॥
Translation
Accept her; may prosperity be yours. Take her hand in yours. A woman of great fortune and devoted to her husband, she will ever follow you like a shadow.
हिंदी अनुवाद
तुम इसे स्वीकार करो, तुम्हारा कल्याण हो। अपने हाथ से इसका हाथ थामो (पाणिग्रहण करो)। यह परम सौभाग्यशालिनी और पतिव्रता है, और छाया की भांति सदा तुम्हारे पीछे चलेगी (तुम्हारा अनुसरण करेगी)।
English Commentary
This verse completes the offering begun in the previous one. Janaka instructs Rama to perform the Panigrahana (holding the hand), a gesture symbolizing protection and acceptance. The phrase "Chayeva anugata sada" (she will follow you always like a shadow) is deeply poetic and prophetic. A shadow is inseparable from the form; it moves where the form moves. This metaphor encapsulates Sita's future devotion—she will not stay in Ayodhya when Rama is exiled but will follow him into the wild. Janaka vouches for her character as "Pativrata" (devoted to the husband) and "Mahabhaga" (highly fortunate/blessed). It is a father's ultimate reassurance to the groom and a heavy emotional moment where the bond is sealed forever.

यह 'कन्यादान' का मंत्र-रूप है। 'प्रतीच्छ' (स्वीकार करो) और 'पाणिम् गृह्णीष्व' (हाथ थामो)—यही पाणिग्रहण संस्कार है। जनक जी राम को आशीर्वाद देते हैं 'भद्रम् ते' (तुम्हारा कल्याण हो)। सीता के गुणों का वर्णन करते हुए वे कहते हैं 'पतिव्रता' और 'महाभागा' (महान भाग्य वाली)। अंतिम चरण 'छायेव अनुगता सदा' (छाया की तरह सदा पीछे चलने वाली) अत्यंत मार्मिक और भविष्यसूचक है। छाया कभी शरीर का साथ नहीं छोड़ती, चाहे धूप हो या अँधेरा। सीता ने अपने जीवन में इस वाक्य को अक्षरशः सिद्ध किया। महलों के सुख हों या वन के कष्ट, सीता छाया की तरह राम के साथ रहीं। जनक का यह वाक्य भारतीय नारी के समर्पण और निष्ठा का आदर्श बन गया है।
