Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
ऋषीन् चैव महात्मानः सह भार्या रघु उद्वहाः ।
यथा उक्तेन तथा चक्रुः विवाहम् विधि पूर्वकम् ॥ ॥१-७३-३६॥
Ṛṣīn caiva mahātmānaḥ saha bhāryā raghu udvahāḥ |
Yathā uktena tathā cakruḥ vivāham vidhi pūrvakam ॥1-73-36॥
Translation
The noble scions of the Raghu lineage, along with their wives, circumambulated the great sages as well, and thus performed the wedding strictly according to the prescribed rites.

रघुकुल का वहन करने वाले उन महामना राजकुमारों ने अपनी पत्नियों के साथ ऋषियों की (भी) परिक्रमा की और जैसा (शास्त्रों में) कहा गया है, वैसे ही विधिपूर्वक विवाह संपन्न किया।
English Commentary
In addition to the fire and the King, the couples also circumambulated the "Mahatmanah Rishin" (great souled sages). This gesture acknowledges the debt to the teachers and spiritual guides. The term "Raghu udvahah" (uplifters of Raghu's line) suggests that through this marriage, they are ensuring the continuity and glory of their lineage. The poet reiterates that everything was done "Vidhi purvakam" (according to rule), emphasizing the legitimacy and sanctity of the quadruple alliance.

अग्नि और राजा के अलावा, उन्होंने उपस्थित ऋषियों (वशिष्ठ, विश्वामित्र आदि) की भी परिक्रमा की। यह गुरु-भक्ति का परिचायक है। 'रघु उद्वहाः' का अर्थ है रघुकुल का भार उठाने वाले या उसे आगे ले जाने वाले। विवाह संस्कार 'यथा उक्तेन' (जैसा कहा गया है/शास्त्र सम्मत) और 'विधि पूर्वकम्' (विधि के साथ) संपन्न हुआ। वाल्मीकि जी बार-बार 'विधि' शब्द का प्रयोग करके यह स्थापित कर रहे हैं कि राम-सीता और उनके भाइयों का विवाह महज एक स्वयंवर या गंधर्व विवाह नहीं था, बल्कि यह पूर्ण वैदिक रीति से संपन्न हुआ धार्मिक अनुष्ठान था।
