Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
ईदृशे वर्तमाने तु तूर्य उद्घुष्ट निनादिते ।
त्रिः अग्निम् ते परिक्रम्य ऊहुः भार्या महौजसः ॥ ॥१-७३-३९॥
Īdṛśe vartamāne tu tūrya udghuṣṭa ninādite |
Triḥ agnim te parikramya ūhuḥ bhāryā mahaujasah ॥1-73-39॥
Translation
Amidst such auspicious sounds of trumpets and instruments, those mighty ones circumambulated the fire three times and espoused their wives.

ऐसी मंगलमयी तूर्य (वाद्य) ध्वनियों के बीच, उन महातेजस्वी (भाइयों) ने अग्नि की तीन बार परिक्रमा करके अपनी-अपनी पत्नियों को व्याहा (विवाह कार्य पूर्ण किया)।
English Commentary
This verse summarizes the core ritual amidst the sensory overload of music. "Trih Agnim parikramya" specifies that they circled the fire three times. While modern Hindu custom typically involves seven rounds (Saptapadi), ancient Grihya Sutras vary, often prescribing three rounds for the fire circumambulation followed by the seven steps. The brothers are called "Mahaujasah" (possessing great vitality). The verb "Uhuh" confirms the completion of the marriage act—they have formally accepted the brides as their wives.

यह श्लोक विवाह की मुख्य क्रिया को समेटता है। 'त्रिः अग्निम् परिक्रम्य'—अग्नि के तीन फेरे लेने की बात कही गई है (यद्यपि आजकल सात फेरों का चलन है, प्राचीन सूत्रों में तीन फेरों का भी उल्लेख मिलता है या इसे प्रक्रिया का हिस्सा माना जा सकता है)। 'ऊहुः' का अर्थ है 'वहन किया' या 'विवाह किया' (to marry/carry away)। 'महौजसः' (महान ओज वाले) विशेषण भाइयों के लिए है। संगीत और शंखनाद के बीच उन्होंने अग्नि को साक्षी मानकर विवाह पूर्ण किया।
