अथ रात्र्याम् व्यतीतायाम् विश्वामित्रो महामुनिः ।
आपृष्ट्वा तौ च राजानौ जगाम उत्तर पर्वतम् ॥ ॥१-७४-१॥
Atha rātryām vyatītāyām viśvāmitro mahāmuniḥ |
Āpṛṣṭvā tau ca rājānau jagāma uttara parvatam ॥1-74-1॥
Translation
Then, when the night had passed, the great sage Vishwamitra took leave of the two kings (Dasharatha and Janaka) and departed for the northern mountains (Himalayas).
हिंदी अनुवाद
रात बीतने पर (अगले दिन प्रातः), महामुनि विश्वामित्र उन दोनों राजाओं (दशरथ और जनक) से विदा लेकर उत्तरी पर्वत (हिमालय) की ओर चले गए।
English Commentary
This verse marks a significant transition. Vishwamitra's mission is accomplished. He brought Rama out of Ayodhya, trained him in divine weaponry, oversaw the destruction of demons, and orchestrated the divine marriage. Now, as the morning dawns ("Ratryam vyatitayam"), he departs for the Himalayas ("Uttara parvatam"). He seeks no reward or position. This highlights the detached nature of a true Rishi; having set the stage for the Avatar's life, he withdraws to his ascetic pursuits, leaving the kings to manage the worldly affairs.

यह एक बहुत महत्वपूर्ण मोड़ है। विश्वामित्र का कार्य पूर्ण हुआ। वे राम को अयोध्या से लाए थे, राक्षसों का वध कराया, यज्ञ की रक्षा की, अहल्या का उद्धार कराया, और अंत में राम-सीता का विवाह संपन्न कराया। अब, बिना किसी पुरस्कार या श्रेय की अपेक्षा किए, वे चुपचाप हिमालय ('उत्तर पर्वतम्') तपस्या के लिए लौट जाते हैं। यह एक सच्चे योगी और गुरु का लक्षण है—शिष्य को तैयार करके और उसे गृहस्थ धर्म में स्थापित करके स्वयं विरक्त हो जाना। रामायण में विश्वामित्र की भूमिका यहाँ लगभग समाप्त हो जाती है।
