उवाच मधुराम् वाणीम् श्रूयताम् अस्य यत् फलम् ।
उपस्थितम् भयम् घोरम् दिव्यम् पक्षि मुखात् च्युतम् ॥ ॥१-७४-१२॥
Uvāca madhurām vāṇīm śrūyatām asya yat phalam |
Upasthitam bhayam ghoram divyam pakṣi mukhāt cyutam ॥1-74-12॥
Translation
...spoke in a sweet voice: "Listen to what constitutes the result of this. A terrible danger of divine origin is imminent, as indicated by the birds."

...मधुर वाणी में बोले— "इस (शकुन) का जो फल है, उसे सुनिए। पक्षियों के मुख से जो संकेत निकला है, वह बताता है कि कोई घोर 'दिव्य' भय उपस्थित हुआ है।"
English Commentary
Vashistha responds with "Madhuram vanim" (sweet/calm voice) to stabilize the King, even though the news is bad. He confirms the omen: "Bhayam Ghoram" (terrible fear/danger) is approaching. Crucially, he classifies it as "Divyam" (divine/celestial). This distinction is key—the threat isn't from an earthly army but from a supernatural source, preparing Dasharatha for the arrival of the Avatar of Vishnu, Parashurama.

वशिष्ठ जी की वाणी 'मधुराम्' (मधुर/शांत) है, ताकि राजा का भय कम हो। वे सत्य को छिपाते नहीं हैं। वे स्पष्ट करते हैं कि 'भयम् घोरम्' (भयानक खतरा) सामने है। उन्होंने 'दिव्यम्' शब्द का प्रयोग किया, जिसका अर्थ है कि यह खतरा साधारण चोर-डाकुओं या राजाओं से नहीं, बल्कि किसी दिव्य शक्ति (देवता या सिद्ध पुरुष) से है। यह परशुराम की ओर सीधा संकेत है। वशिष्ठ जी एक अच्छे ज्योतिषी की तरह समस्या का सही निदान (diagnosis) कर रहे हैं।
