ददर्श भीम संकाशम् जटा मण्डल धारिणम् ।
भार्गवम् जमदग्ने अयम् राजा राज विमर्दनम् ॥ ॥१-७४-१७॥
Dadarśa bhīma saṃkāśam jaṭā maṇḍala dhāriṇam |
Bhārgavam jamadagne ayam rājā rāja vimardanam ॥1-74-17॥
Translation
Then the King (Dasharatha) saw the son of Jamadagni, Bhargava (Parashurama), who was wearing a circle of matted locks, appearing terrifying, and was known as the destroyer of kings.
हिंदी अनुवाद
तब राजा (दशरथ) ने जटाओं का मंडल धारण किए हुए, भयंकर प्रतीत होने वाले, राजाओं का नाश करने वाले, जमदग्नि के पुत्र भार्गव (परशुराम) को देखा।
English Commentary
This verse marks the entrance of Parashurama. He is described with formidable epithets: bhīma saṃkāśam (terrifying in appearance) and rāja vimardanam (the crusher of kings). For a Kshatriya king like Dasharatha, this sight is synonymous with death, given Parashurama's history of annihilating the warrior caste. The mention of his matted locks identifies him as an ascetic, yet his aura is that of a destroyer. This juxtaposition of the ascetic Brahmin and the violent warrior creates a unique, fearsome persona that strikes terror into the heart of the beholder.

यहाँ परशुराम जी का प्रथम दर्शन होता है। उन्हें 'भीम संकाशम्' (भीम के समान या अत्यंत डरावना) और 'राज विमर्दनम्' (राजाओं को कुचलने वाला) कहा गया है। राजा दशरथ के लिए यह दृश्य साक्षात् मृत्यु के समान है क्योंकि परशुराम का इतिहास क्षत्रियों के संहार का रहा है। जटा-जूट धारण करना उनके तपस्वी रूप को दर्शाता है, लेकिन उनका आभामंडल एक उग्र योद्धा का है। यह 'ब्राह्म-तेज' और 'क्षत्र-तेज' का एक उग्र मिश्रण है जो किसी भी देखने वाले के मन में भय उत्पन्न कर देता है।
