घोराः तु पक्षिणो वाचो व्याहरन्ति समंततः ।
भौमाः चैव मृगाः सर्वे गच्छन्ति स्म प्रदक्षिणम् ॥ ॥१-७४-९॥
Ghorāḥ tu pakṣiṇo vāco vyāharanti samantataḥ |
Bhaumāḥ caiva mṛgāḥ sarve gacchanti sma pradakṣiṇam ॥1-74-9॥
Translation
Terrible birds began to screech all around, while all the animals on the ground started moving in a clockwise direction (Pradakshina).

(अचानक) चारों ओर पक्षी भयानक बोलियां बोलने लगे, और पृथ्वी पर रहने वाले सभी मृग (पशु) दाहिनी ओर (प्रदक्षिणा क्रम में) चलने लगे।
English Commentary
The narrative employs the ancient science of omens (Shakuna Shastra). The birds screeching horribly ("Ghorah... vacho") signifies imminent danger descending from the sky/divine realm. Conversely, the land animals moving clockwise ("Pradakshinam") is a highly auspicious sign, promising safety or victory for those on the ground. This contradiction creates suspense. It foreshadows a terrifying encounter (Parashurama) that will eventually conclude peacefully without loss of life.
