विरोधम् जनयामास तयोः सत्यवताम् वरः ।
विरोधे तु महत् युद्धम् अभवत् रोम हर्षणम् ॥ ॥१-७५-१६॥
virodham janayāmāsa tayoḥ satyavatām varaḥ । virodhe tu mahat yuddham abhavat roma harṣaṇam ॥ ॥1-75-16॥
Translation
The best among the truthful (Brahma) created enmity between the two. In that conflict, a great and hair-raising battle took place.

सत्यवत्ताओं में श्रेष्ठ ब्रह्मा जी ने उन दोनों (शिव और विष्णु) के बीच विरोध उत्पन्न करा दिया। उस विरोध के फलस्वरूप एक महान और रोंगटे खड़े कर देने वाला युद्ध हुआ।
English Commentary
Acting as the catalyst, Brahma ("satyavatam varah" - best among those established in truth) induced hostility between Shiva and Vishnu. This was necessary to test their respective weapons. The resulting battle is described as "roma harshanam"—causing the hair to stand on end, signifying terror and awe. The verse emphasizes the scale of the clash; it was not a mere skirmish but a cataclysmic event involving the two pillars of existence. Parashurama uses this imagery to heighten the prestige of the bow he currently holds.

ब्रह्मा जी की माया से शिव और विष्णु के बीच शत्रुता या विरोध का भाव उत्पन्न हुआ। यह स्वाभाविक क्रोध नहीं था, बल्कि एक नियोजित लीला थी। परिणामस्वरुप, दोनों महाशक्तियों के बीच 'रोम हर्षणम्' (रोमांचकारी या रोंगटे खड़े करने वाला) युद्ध छिड़ गया। कल्पना कीजिए जब संहारक शिव और पालक विष्णु एक-दूसरे के सामने हों, तो ब्रह्माण्ड की क्या स्थिति होगी। परशुराम इस युद्ध की भयावहता का वर्णन इसलिए कर रहे हैं ताकि श्रीराम उस वैष्णव धनुष की गंभीरता को समझ सकें जो उस युद्ध का साक्षी रहा है।
