तस्य तत् वचनम् श्रुत्वा राजा दशरथः तदा ।
विषण्ण वदनो दीनः प्रांजलिः वाक्यम् अब्रवीत् ॥ ॥१-७५-५॥
tasya tat vacanam śrutvā rājā daśarathaḥ tadā । viṣaṇṇa vadano dīnaḥ prāṃjaliḥ vākyam abravīt ॥ ॥1-75-5॥
Translation
Hearing those words, King Dasharatha became crestfallen; with a miserable expression and folded hands, he spoke.

उनके उस वचन को सुनकर राजा दशरथ का मुख उदास हो गया और वे दीन होकर, हाथ जोड़कर (परशुराम से) बोले।
English Commentary
This verse marks a dramatic shift in mood from the celebratory atmosphere of the wedding return to absolute terror. King Dasharatha, usually a mighty warrior himself, is reduced to a state of helplessness ('dina') before the terrifying sage. His reaction is purely paternal; he fears for the life of his young son against a veteran who has wiped out generations of warriors. The image of the King standing with folded hands ('pranjali') before the sage underscores the immense hierarchy of power where spiritual penance and ascetic wrath outweigh temporal authority.

परशुराम की युद्ध की चुनौती सुनकर राजा दशरथ की स्थिति दयनीय हो जाती है। विवाह का उत्सव क्षण भर में भय में बदल जाता है। 'विषण्ण वदनो' (उदास मुख) और 'दीनः' (लाचार) जैसे शब्द एक पिता की व्याकुलता को दर्शाते हैं। दशरथ जानते हैं कि परशुराम क्षत्रियों के काल हैं, इसलिए वे एक राजा की भांति नहीं, बल्कि एक भयभीत पिता की भांति हाथ जोड़कर (प्रांजलिः) दया की भीख मांगते हैं। यह श्लोक वात्सल्य भाव और आसन्न संकट के भय का मिश्रण है।
