Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
स त्वम् धर्म परो भूत्वा काश्यपाय वसुंधराम् ।
दत्त्वा वनम् उपागम्य महेन्द्र कृत केतनः ॥ ॥१-७५-८॥
sa tvam dharma paro bhūtvā kāśyapāya vasuṃdharām । dattvā vanam upāgamya mahendra kṛta ketanaḥ ॥ ॥1-75-8॥
Translation
Being devoted to Dharma, and having given the earth to Kashyapa, you went to the forest and made Mount Mahendra your abode.
हिंदी अनुवाद
अतः धर्म-परायण होकर और कश्यप ऋषि को यह पृथ्वी दान में देकर, आप वन में चले गए थे और महेंद्र पर्वत को अपना निवास बनाया था।
English Commentary
Dasharatha outlines Parashurama's transition from warrior to ascetic to emphasize why he shouldn't be here. Parashurama had already performed the ultimate act of renunciation by gifting the conquered earth to Sage Kashyapa and retiring to Mount Mahendra. Logically, a renunciate who has given away the world should have no interest in the martial prowess of a young prince. Dasharatha is essentially asking: 'You left the world behind for the sake of Dharma; why return now to destroy my family?'

दशरथ यहाँ परशुराम के संन्यास और त्याग का वर्णन कर रहे हैं। परशुराम ने पूरी पृथ्वी जीतकर कश्यप मुनि को दान कर दी थी और स्वयं महेंद्र पर्वत पर तपस्या करने चले गए थे। भाव यह है कि जिसने पृथ्वी का ही त्याग कर दिया हो, उसे अब सांसारिक सत्ता या शक्ति-प्रदर्शन से क्या प्रयोजन? दशरथ यह जताना चाहते हैं कि एक बार 'धर्म परो' (धर्म में स्थित) होने के बाद, पुनः हिंसा की ओर लौटना परशुराम जैसे महात्मा को शोभा नहीं देता।
