Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
तम् इमाम् मत् गतिम् वीर हन्तुम् न अर्हसि राघव ।
मनो जवम् गमिष्यामि महेन्द्रम् पर्वत उत्तमम् ॥१-७६-१५॥
tam imām mat gatim vīra hantum na arhasi rāghava |
mano javam gamiṣyāmi mahendram parvata uttamam ॥1-76-15॥
Translation
Therefore, O Hero Raghava, you ought not to destroy this mobility (gati) of mine. I shall go with the speed of the mind to Mahendra, the best of mountains.
हिंदी अनुवाद
अतः हे वीर राघव! आप मेरी इस (मन के समान तेज) गति को नष्ट न करें। मैं मन के समान तीव्र वेग से श्रेष्ठ महेंद्र पर्वत पर चला जाऊंगा।
English Commentary
Faced with the choice Rama offered earlier—destroying his mobility or his spiritual merits—Parashurama chooses to save his mobility. The arrow on Vishnu’s bow must find a target. Parashurama pleads for his gati (speed/movement) to remain intact so he can retreat to Mount Mahendra. This choice signifies a retreat from the active world (action) back to asceticism. He prioritizes the ability to leave the mundane plane over the accumulated merits of his past, showing a detachment characteristic of a true Gnani.

वैष्णव धनुष पर चढ़ाया गया बाण अमोघ है—उसे छोड़ना ही पड़ता है। श्री राम ने पूछा था कि मैं इस बाण से आपके 'पैरों की गति' नष्ट करूँ या आपके 'तपोबल से अर्जित लोकों' को? यहाँ परशुराम जी प्रार्थना कर रहे हैं कि उनकी शारीरिक गति को बख्श दिया जाए। 'मनो जवम्' (मन की गति) शब्द सिद्ध करता है कि परशुराम जी के पास अभी भी अलौकिक सिद्धियाँ शेष हैं। वे महेंद्र पर्वत पर जाकर अपनी तपस्या पुनः आरम्भ करना चाहते हैं, इसलिए वे अपने लोकों का त्याग करने को तैयार हैं, किन्तु अपनी गति का नहीं।
