Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
कृतवान् अस्मि यत् कर्म श्रुतवान् असि भार्गव ।
अनुरुन्ध्यामहे ब्रह्मन् पितुर् आनृण्यम् आस्थितः ॥१-७६-२॥
Kṛtavān asmi yat karma śrutavān asi bhārgava |
Anurundhyāmahe brahman pitur ānṛṇyam āsthitaḥ ॥1-76-2॥
Translation
O Bhargava! I have heard of the deeds you have done. O Brahmin! I have restrained myself, acknowledging the debt/obligation I owe to you (due to your status as a Brahmin).
हिंदी अनुवाद
हे भार्गव! आपने जो कर्म (क्षत्रियों का संहार) किया है, वह मैंने सुना है। हे ब्राह्मण! हम आपके प्रति ऋणी (दबे हुए) हैं, इसलिए मैंने अपने क्रोध को रोक रखा था।
English Commentary
Sri Rama speaks with a mix of humility and firmness. He acknowledges Parashurama's past annihilation of Kshatriyas but explains that he tolerated the aggression solely because Parashurama is a Brahmin. The phrase pitur ānṛṇyam suggests an obligation or respect due to lineage and the Brahminical status. Rama clarifies that his tolerance should not be mistaken for weakness; it is a conscious choice governed by the respect owed to the priestly class.
हिंदी टीका
श्री राम यहाँ अत्यंत विनम्रता किन्तु दृढ़ता के साथ बोलते हैं। वे परशुराम के क्षत्रिय-संहार वाले अतीत को जानते हैं, फिर भी वे कहते हैं कि उन्होंने अब तक सहन इसलिए किया क्योंकि परशुराम एक ब्राह्मण हैं। 'पितुर् आनृण्यम्' का यहाँ भाव यह है कि परशुराम ब्राह्मण होने के नाते पूज्य हैं और उनके पूर्वजों का संबंध विश्वामित्र (राम के गुरु) से भी है। राम स्पष्ट कर रहे हैं कि उनकी सहनशीलता उनकी कमजोरी नहीं, बल्कि ब्राह्मणों के प्रति उनका सम्मान है।
