Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
पितरम् देव संकाशम् पूजयामासतुः तदा ।
पितुः आज्ञाम् पुरस्कृत्य पौर कार्याणि सर्वशः ॥१-७७-२१॥
pitaram deva saṃkāśam pūjayāmāsatuḥ tadā |
pituḥ ājñām puraskṛtya paura kāryāṇi sarvaśaḥ ॥1-77-21॥
Translation
(They) then honored/served their god-like father. Placing their father's command at the forefront, they attended to all the affairs of the citizens.
हिंदी अनुवाद
(राम और लक्ष्मण) तब देवता समान अपने पिता की पूजा (सेवा) करने लगे। पिता की आज्ञा को सर्वोपरि रखकर वे नगर (पौर) के समस्त कार्यों को करते थे।
English Commentary
This describes Rama's governance style during his apprenticeship. He treats Dasharatha with divine reverence, never overstepping authority. By executing civic duties ('paura karyani') under his father's name, Rama gains administrative experience and the love of the populace. It portrays an ideal transition of power where the heir supports the incumbent ruler rather than competing with him. This diligence makes the subsequent tragedy of his exile even more poignant for the citizens.
